Speech, Language & Literacy

Communication skills, including speech, language and literacy are integral to our everyday life. For children, speech and language form a vital part of learning. The majority of classrooms depend on children being able to:

  • follow instructions
  • store and recall concepts
  • express ideas verbally or in writing
  • socialise with their peers

Children that experience speech and language difficulties often have trouble with one or more of the above skills and can therefore struggle to achieve academically and socially.

Numerous research studies across the fields of education, psychology and speech pathology have demonstrated the link between early speech and language delays and later literacy difficulties. It is therefore vital to a students’ development that early intervention occurs in the classroom.

The Language Advantage assists teachers to develop the speech, language and early literacy skills of their students. Across a number of schools The Language Advantage has:

  • Improved educational outcomes
  • Reduced social skills difficulties
  • Empowered teachers to implement new speech and language goals, strategies and activities
  • Assisted schools with early identification of difficulties

Is your school equipped to solve the problem?

Many teachers report that the incidence of speech and language difficulties in their classrooms has risen. Limited options exist for schools, as there are few alternatives that don’t involve either high cost individual one-on-one speech therapy or long wait times.

The ideal solution for schools is the supported implementation of an advanced whole class approach to improving speech and language skills. The Language Advantage includes a 5-step comprehensive package that provides support across the whole school year. Teachers learn practical and effective strategies that can easily be embedded into normal lesson plans. The speech pathologist works with each teacher's current knowledge base to extend and build on the teachers skills. Where it has been used, the comprehensive package has shown significant improvements in children's communication.

Professional Development

A range of informative and practical Professional development workshops are available throughout the year on speech, language, social skills, fine motor skills and other vital childhood skills.
